TRAAX Rod

TRAAX ROD® torque rods offer up to 5X* the performance life of conventional double shot bushings and similar performance of ball and socket torque rods, with better energy absorption, delivering best in class bushing retention and longer component life for heavy- and severe-duty applications.

Torque Rod Function

Transverse torque rod

HAULMAAX Torque Rod Types

  • Absorbs lateral and side loads
    - Providing roll resistance for increased vehicle roll stability
  • Keeps axle centered laterally and controls axle walk-out
  • Not used with walking beams utilizing bronze center bushings
    - “Binding” effect occurs in articulation events
    - Causes premature component wear and adverse vehicle handling

Longitudinal torque rod

  • Absorbs accelerating and braking loads to restrain axle housing rotation
  • Controls vehicle driveline angles providing improved component life

Transverse torque rod Challenges

Walkout

 bushing walkout

Torsional and conical movement

  • Caused by extreme side loads in severe articulation applications
  • Misalignment of the following can intensify these loads
    - Pinion angle
    - Frame rail alignment to axle bowl

Premature Bushing Wear

Premature Bushing Wear

Incorrect use of torque rod in vocational applications

  • Bushing size and rod body do not accommodate loads forced into vehicle

Bushing and rod design

  • Bushing not placed in high confinement to restrict movement
  • Bushing not under precompression
  • No bond to bushing inner metal

Features and Benefits

TRAAX ROD® performance — Up to *five times times the performance life of conventional double shot bushings and similar performance of ball and socket torque rods, with better energy absorption, delivering best in class bushing retention and longer component life for heavy- and severe-duty applications.

Heavy-Duty

Recommended for 40,000 lb. to 52,000 lb. capacity suspensions in most vocational applications.

Severe-Duty

Larger bushing and rod body design vs. Heavy-duty TRAAX ROD.
Recommended for 60,000 lb. to 70,000 lb. capacity suspensions. Also available for 40,000 lb. to 52,000 lb. capacity suspensions for even longer service intervals.

TRAAX ROD BODY

Fabricated rod body

  • Works in conjunction with our proprietary bushing to provide a large footprint for heavy load and energy absorption during high articulation and side load events.

Offers easy and inexpensive flexibility

  • Hendrickson's proprietary manufacturing process can easily generate a variety of torque rod lengths. Length variety significantly reduces the need for shims which can compromise the connection integrity if not secured properly or used with correct shims.

One-piece design

  • Supports uptime by removing and replacing with original one-piece length for an accurate fit the first time.

TRAAX ROD BUSHINGS

Curled outer metal casing

  • Places rubber in pre-compression mode to “harness” the energy to perform at its highest peak, providing best-in-class durability and performance.

Proprietary rubber material

  • Reduces cost of ownership by absorbing horizontal, vertical and torsional forces for long component life.

High strength bond

  • Bonding the rubber to inner metal eliminates friction between the inner metal and rubber, minimizing bushing wear and increasing component life cycle.

Hardened steel bar pins and taper pins

  • Delivers increased resistance against wear and abrasion to extend the service intervals of the component.

* Based on internal testing of bushing walkout, retention and durability. Actual product performance may vary depending on component and vehicle configuration, operation, service and other factors.

Smart Numbering System

TRAAX Rod Smart Numbering

Measuring Torque Rod Length

  1. Measure center of bushing eye to center of bushing eye
  2. Determine length in millimeters
  3. If the length does not end in 0mm or 5mm, round down to the nearest increment

Note: Popular bolt hole diameter: 5/8". Popular bushing clocking angle: 0 degrees.

Conversion Calculator (inches to mm)
