Advanced performance and maintenance are mainstays in the commercial vehicle industry, and both play a crucial role in the standards set for efficient operations.
Since the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) introduced Brake Safety week in 1998, more than 3.4 million brakes have been inspected. During the CVSA's Operation Airbrake’s Internal Roadcheck Campaign in 2015, brake-related violations soared at
43%– the highest percentage of all out-of-service violations.
The MAXX22T™ Advantage
Hendrickson’s MAXX22T™ trailer air disc brake boasts a host of features that are designed to enhance performance and simplify maintenance, including the use of WABCO’s proven single piston technology.
The bi-directional adjuster mechanism helps to maintain proper running clearance between the rotor and brake pads to reduce potential issues associated with seized calipers or hot-running brakes. This proven technology
uses a larger piston and spreader plate to help eliminate timing issues and provide even wear.
Timing is everything in the trucking industry, and downtime can be detrimental to a fleet’s bottom line. The time to change the brake linings on a typical drum brake can take up to
four times longer than changing the pads on an air disc brake system. The less downtime a trailer spends in the maintenance bay, the more money a fleet can potentially earn.
THE MAXX22T ADVANTAGE
Hendrickson’s advanced MAXX22T optimized trailer air disc brake is engineered with quality components designed to last. When inspection and maintenance are required, the thoughtful design of
Hendrickson’s MAXX22T system helps fleets decrease downtime and enhance efficiency.
The bolt-on splash guard protects against cross-splash from hitting a hot rotor, which can result in quench cracking or rotor damage. Standard on all MAXX22T systems, the splash guard is easy to install
and maintain, and the design includes built-in clearance to help simplify rotor inspection.
The weight optimized torque plate features a notch to help prevent improper caliper installation.
MAXX22T also features a rotor-mounted tone ring that keeps the ABS sensor cabling away from heat and provides a simple mounting location for easy service.
Finally, all MAXX22T systems are available with RTR® READY-TO-ROLL® wheel-end systems that are backed by a hubcap-to-hubcap warranty from Hendrickson.
Air disc brakes continue to gain popularity in the North American trailer market. This year more than 30,000 new NAFTA trailers are expected to be equipped with air disc brakes.
As acceptance of this technology continues, knowledge and training is an essential tool to make informed spec’ing decisions about air disc brakes.

A typical trailer air disc brake system has a lot of moving parts. On average the typical air disc brake system has 37 moving parts, which are subject to wear and tear.
The MAXX22T Advantage
Hendrickson’s MAXX22T trailer air disc brake is optimized for performance in the North American trailer market while eliminating half the moving parts of similar trailer air disc brake systems.
With less moving parts, WABCO’s single piston technology provides higher reliability and reduced weight. Hendrickson works closely with MAXX22T customers to
provide recommendations for replacement components to making stocking parts easy and efficient.
